Students will gain knowledge of the interplay between communication and relationships on both micro and societal levels. At the micro level, students will develop analytic and communication skills needed to understand the process of relationship development, maintenance and deterioration. At the societal level, students will acquire critical reasoning skills needed to interpret images and messages about families and other small groups. Students will be prepared for entry-level communication positions in organizations such as those allied with health care and human development or for advanced work in communication studies and other fields focusing on the analysis of human behavior.

As a freshman applicant to UH, it is recommended that all freshman applicants complete each of the high school academic core courses listed below with an average of a 2.5 or a “C+” or higher for the group. Students in the top 20% of their class should be admitted automatically. 4 units of English, 3 units of mathematics, including at least Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, 2 units of laboratory science, including at least one unit/credit in biology, chemistry, or physics, 3 units of social studies. If students plan to seek a bachelor’s degree in the arts and sciences areas, students are urged to earn at least two units/credits in one foreign language.

Students must apply online using the Apply Texas Application. Students Submit application with a credit card payment or send a check or money order to the admissions office of $50 application fee. Official transcript with class rank, so ask high school registrar to send it to the address below. Transcripts must be sent to UH in a sealed envelope or sent electronically. Fax and photocopies are not accepted . Official SAT or ACT scores should be sent directly to UH from the testing agency. SAT and ACT policy typically allows students to send test scores to several colleges. Scores can also be sent through The College Board or ACT. To apply for admission to The Honors College, students must submit the following: A complete online application with $20 application fee. Supporting materials include: A full length academic essay of three to five pages, such as a literary analysis or research paper with a central thesis and strong supporting arguments, list of activities and interests, high school transcript, transcript of all college-level work, SAT or ACT scores .
