- Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Electronics Option)
I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment I have spent at Chico State. It is no doubt one of the most apt choices when it comes to choosing a university for higher education especially Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Why? Lets see: 1. Great Faculty and Best Chair (Electrical and Computer Engineering) 2. Adequate level of courses (Control systems, Networking and High Freq. Design) 3. Good opportunity for Teaching Assistantship (Labs) and 3-6 Unit Non-resident Tuition waiver. 4. Top 1-2 in the department will get the opportunity to work for Office of Naval Research Project (on campus) thus gaining invaluable experience working on Unmanned Underwater Vehicle Design and Simulation with experienced Professors. 5. Small department size (Intake typically < 40 for Masters per semester). Thus, personalized approach to teaching. (Not like some of the universities in the Bay area where more than 600 of us come every semester :P) 6. A best location in terms of living Located in Northern California; 3 hours drive from Silicon Valley - which you know is the hub of the entire Tech sector. Hence, if you search and apply well, you will get a job in your field of interest. 7. Living Expenses are 1/3rd of any other major city. You can easily take care of your rent and food doing an On-Campus Job. Some even manage to pay their tuition fees after 1st semester. And yes, maybe one of the most wallet friendly universities. Per semester fees for Masters is 5k-7k depending on the number of courses you take. Great isnt it? 8. Ya and everyone manages to get referral for SSN and get an on campus job fairly easily. 9. Helpful International advisors (if you talk to them directly). Dont always believe the advice of the seniors who came here before you and act on it. Thats when students get in trouble with the International advisors. Stay in touch with them (International advisors) and carefully understand all the rules from them personally and you will do fine. 10. Good Students Organizations like International Neighbors and ISA - Indian Student Association (ISA will facilitate your accommodation and living at homes of your seniors and they will in turn help you with opening your bank accounts, creating your Wildcat ID, getting you acclimatized to living in the states, etc. 11. Great party town (if you want to freak out) with great people and amazing night life. Its a university town; so as they say Weekend starts here on Thursday So I give it an 11/10 What say?
Have a good TOEFL score and a decent GRE score. Admission process is fairly routine and similar to any other university.
Funding is expected to be less as it is a public university.
Each course in the department is of four units. Everyone typically takes 12 units (3 courses) per semester. One needs to complete 30 units as per Masters' degree requirement. So you can be done in 1.5 years. Please refer to Department Graduate Handbook link below: http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/ece/documents/graduate_handbook.pdf
There are many places to visit in and around Chico - Lassen National Volcanic Park, Paradise, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Feather Falls, Yosemite, Santa Cruz Beaches to name a few. Every year in April, International Festival is organized by the college which is indeed a treat to watch, experience and be a part of.
If you are good and search meticulously, you will get it. If you are not up to the mark, then even if you go to MIT, no one can help you. (Oh, and for that you need to get admitted to MIT too :P)
